Hi, I’m Ope.

I started off my early life asking “why?” to most things I was told. Being a scientist is innate for me. It’s no wonder that I naturally gravitated towards Chemistry as a student, not once but twice! My passion for Chemistry and the environment led me to pursue a career as an environmental chemist specialising in hazardous waste, although I continued to tutor around my day job.

I've been tutoring chemistry for over 15 years to GCSE, A-Level, students in the UK. I have mastered the exam boards' specs and mark schemes and can help you study smarter. I became a full-time tutor in the summer of 2025 and have never looked back since!

The truth is, as wonderful a subject as Chemistry is, it can seem daunting for many students, especially when exams are approaching. Their bane could be organic chemistry mechanisms, math-heavy acid-base calculations, Born-Haber cycles… you name it. But as complicated as these may seem, I have created simple tried and true methods that I deliver in my online classes to help my students master these tricky topics.

I believe that the road to chemistry mastery is paved with practice and repetition. I help students take the stress out of exam prep by exposing them repeatedly to exam-style questions, letting them in on examiner secrets so they can preempt the mark scheme and boost their confidence on the way to the exam hall.

Every year, I receive amazing feedback from parents and students sharing their transformation in chemistry - increased confidence, boosted grades, admission gained to their preferred course/university. The results really do speak for themselves.

Generally, during a session, there will be a brief teaching/revision session on the topic of the day, a short Q&A session and then a practice problem solved by the student(s). Students (and parents) receive after-session feedback from me after every session, keeping you informed of what’s been covered in the class, details of homework set and any strategies going forwards. All of these are provided to you in your dedicated parent and student portals. I have regular catch-up calls during which you may share updates from school and hear more details about your child’s progress.

Academic Background

Not only am I passionate about seeing students surpass their expectations, I am also well-trained in my subject matter to do so!

I hold an MSc in Green Chemistry from the University of York where I was awarded a bursary on the basis of academic excellence. Fun fact: York's Chemistry department is consistently rated among the top 10 in the country.

I hold a First Class Honours BSc in Chemistry with Biochemistry from Queen Mary University of London, another Russell Group university known for its research prowess.

I also hold an up-to-date enhanced DBS certificate.

Professional Background

Since 2010, I’ve specialised in online tutoring using interactive whiteboard systems and classrooms that bring lessons to life. While I started my tutoring journey as a sixth form student tutoring GCSEs on other tutoring well-known platforms such as TutorHunt, I have now branched out on my own with my own site to connect with students and parents that need my help and expertise.

My one-to-one Chemistry tuition is highly personalised. I work with the student to craft a curriculum that prioritises their struggles, adjusting to their style and pace, breaking down complex concepts into simple explanations.

My group sessions follow the exam board's specification covering content and exam practice in every session. Whether it’s the Arrhenius Equation or Organic mechanisms, I love helping students “see” the science, not just memorise it.

For both modes, I incorporate regular practice with exam-style questions to build familiarity, boost confidence, and develop the skills needed to tackle assessments head-on. I understand how overwhelming science can feel, especially under exam pressure, and I’m here to make the journey not only manageable, but enjoyable, while helping you achieve your goals.

For 121 students focusing on exam prep, I generally work with the student on the topics they find most challenging first and I expand on this as sessions progress and the gaps become apparent. In this way, my sessions are more targeted. Depending on your learning style, I'm happy to employ a range of methods to aid personal understanding, ranging from past papers, interactive quizzes, flashcards, YouTube videos and much more. Simply tell me what works best for them. My sessions are fully interactive and tailored to their learning needs. 

Each lesson typically begins with a short teaching or revision segment, followed by guided practice using exam-style questions. After sessions, I leave a brief assignment on the board for them to complete in their own time, reinforcing what we’ve covered. At the start of the next session, we’ll have a quick recap to consolidate their understanding and keep progress on track!

Regular feedback is important to me, and so I keep parents and guardians in the loop with after-session feedback notes which you will have access in your online parent portal.
