Email message from Ray to Opeyemi dated December 17, 2020, expressing gratitude for help and sharing test results.

When Jacque first contacted me, her son Ray had just opened his A-Level Chemistry results to a C grade.

Ray had applied for Medicine and needed an A to secure his university place. With re-sits approaching, he needed to improve by two grades in just a couple of months.

From our very first session, it was clear that Ray was hardworking and motivated. The problem wasn’t his understanding of Chemistry, but exam technique. He was losing marks on questions he actually understood.

Over 8 weeks of focused 1:1 tutoring twice a week, we worked on:

  • OCR exam technique

  • structuring extended-response answers

  • interpreting unfamiliar questions

  • applying mark scheme phrasing

  • timed past paper practice

By the end of the programme, Ray had transformed the way he approached exam questions.

He exceeded his target and achieved an A*, securing his place to study Medicine at the University of Edinburgh.
